design quote of the day
I believe that the best way to create highly usable products, web sites, apps, products, and even business processes, is through the use of user-centered design with an emphasis on contextual inquiry interviews, data analysis and modeling, and iterative prototype testing within development sprints to keep the design on track and ensure the right product gets built. To make the world a better place for users of software, systems, web sites and products through the application of User-Centered Design and Universal Design.
Yoga has been an integral part of my life for over 30 years. Yoga practice is a great way to counteract the stresses of working in the tech industry, specifically the effects of sitting at a computer terminal all day. I love to share my knowledge and experience with others and have my Yoga Alliance RYT200 teaching certificate for training I took through the Sivananda Yoga Vendanta Center.
I believe climate change is the defining social justice issue of our time so I work with 350MA to bring about legislative and social change to help halt the devastating effects of our dependence on fossil fuels.
As co-chair of Follen Community Church's Social Justice Action Team from 2012-2014, I helped support the work of sub-teams acting to bring positive social change in the areas of climate change, immigration reform, poverty and civil rights. As a founding member of Follen's Environmental Justice Task Force, I helped lead the project to divest Follen's endowment from fossil fuels. The church voted to divest in the spring of 2015.
I'm a technology fan and love spending my time using, designing and thinking about technology. However, when I need a break from technology I like gardening, reading, practicing and teaching yoga, studying martial arts, traveling, biking, hiking climbing, canyoneering, and dreaming up my next adventure. I love just about any style of guitar music but my first love was Mississippi delta and Piedmont blues guitar picking, both listening to and learning to play it. My first guitar hero was Mississippi John Hurt. Most recently I've learned to play the saxophone at the School of HONK and joined the Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band which allows me to combine my activism with my music!
